The ancient ruins of Roman portal city, Ostia, is the emphasis of this 4-hour bus and walking combination tour.

This tour will provide you with a peek into what everyday life must have been like in ancient Roman times. Located an estimated 30 minutes outside Rome is Ostia. This city's Latin name, "Ostium," means "mouth of the river." Its name reflects its position along the Tiber River during Imperial Rome. At the time of its founding in 4th century B.C. by King Anco Marzio, the city was situated right alongside the river and was Rome's dominant seaport. After years of silting and a drop in sea level, Ostia is now located approximately 2 miles from the sea.

Your tour guide will discuss the social and cultural importance of this commercial settlement as you walk amongst the ruins. Located on the site are beautiful black and white mosaics representing Neptune and Amphitrite; an amphitheater built by Agrippa; and the Forum that formed the city's center. Il Capitolium are the principle public buildings and include the temple of Rome and Augustus, a basilica and large, thermal baths. A museum on site has ancient sculptures and mosaics displayed.

11 DAYS MINIMUM ADVANCE BOOKING REQUIRED. Tour includes hotel pick-up or drop-off at central Rome hotels. Rates are in US Dollars. Please reserve online, or call us toll-free at 800-719-6391. There is a $3.95 processing fee per order. This is a flat fee regardless of the number of tickets or tours purchased on an order.
There is a service charge per ticket. This charge will be reflected on your summary before you checkout. The total shown includes any and all taxes, fuel surcharges, and service fees. There are no additional charges.

Cancellation Policy: There are no refunds. All sales are final.

Change Fee Policy: If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center.
